H.O.T. stands for "High-five Of Teenagers" and it was the perfect name for these five talented boys!
Moon Hee-joon
Our legendary leader, main vocalist, and lead dancer! Don't let his cute exterior fool you; he was a creative genius behind the scenes, helping to write lyrics and choreograph some of H.O.T.'s most iconic dances with Woo-hyuk. He was an absolute powerhouse who kept the group together and then went on to showcase his hilarious variety show chops for decades.
Jang Woo-hyuk
The main rapper and THE main dancer! His legendary moves set the bar for every K-pop idol that followed. He was known for his incredible popping and locking skills and his intense, screaming rap style that gave H.O.T.'s music an extra edge. Fans know him as "Hammer Boy" for his signature dance move in "Candy." After H.O.T., he, Tony, and Jae-won formed the trio jtL.
Tony An
The smooth, American-raised lead vocalist who brought a different vibe to the group. His softer vocals were the perfect contrast to Kangta's more powerful style. He also founded his own entertainment company after H.O.T., proving he's not just a talent on stage but a savvy businessman, too.
Kangta
The angelic main vocalist and visual! Discovered by SM at a theme park when he was a teen, his stunning voice and handsome visuals made him a total fan favorite. He helped write and compose over 100 songs for H.O.T. and other artists (including NRG, Shinhwa, Fly To The Sky, etc.), cementing his place as a true musical legend. He even became an executive at SM Entertainment!
Lee Jae-won
The youngest member and lead rapper who added to their hip-hop sound! He and Hee-joon were the last to be added to the group before their debut. A quieter member, his rap verses were a core part of their music's hip-hop flair. After H.O.T., he joined jtL with Woo-hyuk and Tony.

H.O.T.'s music was so versatile! They weren't just one style, which is why they were so popular.
"Candy": Their cutesy, bubblegum pop hit from 1996 that made everyone fall in love with them!. The colorful outfits and cheerful choreography were iconic!
"We Hate All Kinds of Violence" (전사의 후예): Their intense debut single that had a super important message criticizing school violence. This song showed they weren't afraid to speak their minds.
"Hope" (빛): A beautiful ballad that became an anthem for their fans. It's a song that gives you all the feels!
"I Yah!": A powerful track from their fourth album that was written as a tribute to the victims of a tragic fire that killed kindergarten students. Talk about using their platform for good!
random facts & what came next
Pioneering a new formula: H.O.T. is considered the first K-pop idol group because they established a formula that is still used today: a combination of choreographed dancing, catchy music, and good looks.
The first fan wars: They also unfortunately gave us the first taste of idol fan wars due to their immense popularity and rivalry with another legendary group, Sechs Kies.
Reunion: They officially disbanded in 2001 after a contract dispute with SM Entertainment, but they reunited in 2018 for a concert that sold out instantly and made everyone so emotional!
anyway, that's just a little bit of the tea on H.O.T. they're so important to K-pop history!
