i just finished watching "glory jane" (also known as "man of honor" or "young kwang ui jae in") and i gotta say, it was a classic kdrama roller coaster (not a 10/10 coaster tho, maybe a 5/10 kiddie ride). the story (while a bit predictable with all the tropes i love to hate) was comforting and heartwarming. it has that blend of corporate scheming, family secrets (so many secrets!), and pure-hearted ambition that makes you keep pressing "next episode" late into the night (but maybe not all night.....)
the main character, yoon jae-in (park min-young, she's cute), is such a strong, resilient female lead. despite all the bad luck thrown her way (losing her parents, working hard as a nurse assistant, dealing with ppls schemes), she remains positive and a total ray of sunshine (like, how?). you really root for her from the start :3
then there's kim young-kwang (chun jung-myung, he's okay), the male lead, who starts off as a bit of a hot-headed, arrogant baseball player who loses everything, but his character development is great as he starts working at the family company geodae. the chemistry between the leads is sweet and realistic (not gonna lie, they are cute together. ahem). the secondary characters add a lot of charm too (the evil stepmother and stepsister, and seo in-woo (lee jang-woo), the second male lead you feel bad for).
the plot is a solid, old-school melodrama. it uses the classic "birth secrets" and revenge arcs that are a staple of the genre (some might find it super dated, i found it just okay~). the pacing is pretty steady, maybe dragging a tiny bit in the middle as they sort out the company politics (kinda boring, ngl), but it ties everything up nicely in the end (phew).
overall, if you're looking for a heartwarming, classic kdrama with lovable characters, a satisfying revenge plot, and all the feels, it is a solid watch. it’s a feel-good story about overcoming adversity and finding your place in the world (a bit cheesy, but whatever). it's a 5/10 for me (it was just alright, nothing spectacular). :///
